Massachusetts has its very own rock star and United By Blue is looking to host a cleanup at Plymouth Rock next spring. Plymouth, MA has been a popular tourist destination since 1620, when the Pilgrims first came over from England in the Mayflower.  In 1774, using 20 oxen, townspeople attempted to move Plymouth Rock from the base of Cole’s Hill, but this multi-ton rock split in two.

The Gulf of Mexico covers about 600,000 square miles and is the ninth largest body of water in the world. It is bordered by 5 US states (Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas) and five Mexican states to the west (Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan), and Cuba. This unique body of water is one of the most diverse ecosystems in the hemisphere and is a critical stopping point for migratory birds from the Arctic to South America.

Springtime in Philadelphia means the return of the Phillies, flowers blooming, birds chirping, and United By Blue coming out of its cleanup hibernation. It’s been a UBB tradition to kick off our cleanup season at our favorite cleanup location, Bartram’s Garden, located at 5400 Lindbergh Blvd.

Bartram’s Garden is the oldest botanical garden in America and was built in 1731. In addition to being a popular spot for urban naturalists and history lovers, the banks of the Schuylkill River is a hotspot for Styrofoam pieces, plastic bottles, clothing, plastic bottles, plastic bottles, and peculiar weird trash items.

Kick off Earth Day Month with a cleanup at one of our favorite places in the city, Bartram's Garden. There are plenty of things to do at Bartram's Garden prior to the cleanup: spend the afternoon admiring their 18th century homestead, stroll through their wildflower meadow or search for the property's rafter of turkeys.

After the free cookout at 5 pm, United By Blue and community volunteers will hit the banks of the Schuylkill River on a quest to collect plastic bottles, Styrofoam bits, clothing, and whatever weird trash we can find. During our cleanups, we host a variety of games and competitions. Volunteers who attend three UBB Bartram's Garden cleanups qualify for a free Bartram's Garden membership.

April Showers may bring May Flowers, but it also brings a lot of trash to Bartram's Garden, located at 5400 Lindbergh Blvd. Help us keep the nation's oldest living botanical garden and our local waterways a little cleaner on May 1st.

Despite Bartram's Garden's natural splendor, it is only 15 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Center City. Its marshes and wooded trails get littered with pieces of Styrofoam, plastic bottles, clothing, food wrappers and some weird items like a 1980s cell phone, half a canoe, and a “missed connection” love note.

In 1972, the United Nations declared June 5th as World Environment Day, a day around the world dedicated to celebrating positive environmental action. Combine your World Environment Day and World Oceans Day (June 8th) celebrations by helping United By Blue clean up the Schuylkill River. The cleanup will be held at Bartram's Garden, which is located at 5400 Lindbergh Blvd. All rivers eventually feed into our majestic oceans, so save our seas by cleaning up a river in your own backyard.

Bartram’s Garden’s beautiful property includes a 18th century homestead, wildflower meadow, gardens to stroll through, wetlands, a wooded area and a community garden. Since this beautiful property is only 15 minutes from Center City, a lot of trash washes down the Schuylkill River onto the property.

Join United By Blue in cleaning up the Schuylkill River at Bartram’s Garden, located at 5400 Lindbergh Blvd, for the last time this season. Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and slow down with the splendor of Bartram’s Gardens. John Bartram was an 18th century botanist and his property is now recognized as the oldest botanical garden in North America.  His house, built in 1731, still stands and is a National Historic Landmark.  Overall, the property is beautiful and to put its significance in context; George Washington, Ben Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson have all visited the gardens!
