Over a year and half, we've seen some unusual things at our cleanups, but cleaning up along the River Terrace Recreation Area in D.C. was unlike anything we have come across. Amongst the reeds of the marshlands that bordered the shores of the Anacostia were layers of food wrappers and thousands of plastic bottles. In total, we picked up 3,989 pounds of trash from the Anacostia River! |
We don't mind getting wet, so dress for rain or shine. Our cleanups aren't always a day at the beach, so be prepared to get your clothes dirty and wear closed toed shoes (you never know what you may encounter).
When it comes to volunteers, we believe the more the merrier. UBB welcomes large groups to our cleanups, and asks leaders to send an email with a rough estimate of volunteers prior to the cleanup.
We like play it safe and every participant has to fill out a waiver. Minors are required to have their parents sign a waiver prior to the cleanup. Anyone under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Click here to download the waiver or email [email protected].
During a UBB cleanup, we play just as hard as we work. Our cleanups include one-of-a-kind competitions, games, and prizes.
We won't leave you high and dry: we provide gloves, trash bags, water, snacks, and fun, all that is missing is you!
If you have questions the day of the cleanup, please call 215-642-0693.
