UBB and Blue Water Baltimore Removed 6,691 Pounds from Baltimore Streams
Location: 1200 Armistead Way Baltimore MD
Date: June 11, 2011
UBB partnered with Blue Water Baltimore, municipal workers and local organizations for this cleanup on Saturday, June 11th. This was not our average cleanup! This was our biggest cleanup to date and we removed 6,691 pounds!
During this cleanup, we removed trash from Armistead Run and Herring Run, which eventually empty out into the Chesapeake Bay. Both streams contained a significant amount of trash and they are also popular illegal dumping sites. The area surrounding the streams is home to a landfill that was filled to capacity.
We found quite the collection of odd items during our cleanup including a fridge, a little kids bike, a turtle sandbox (the bottom, not the top), multiple shopping carts, gas tanks, two mattresses (air and regular) and a black Acura MDX (this stolen SUV weighed 4,471 pounds)!
Our dedicated volunteers removed trash from about a mile of the streams and weren't afraid to get wet (many donned chest height waders for this cleanup). UBB would like to thank our volunteers, Blue Water Baltimore, NCOA Fort Meade, Girl Scout Troop #1048, Baltimore City Municipal Employees, and Arrow Child and Family Ministries.
