y interning with UBB you not only gain invaluable lessons about different aspects of running a responsible business, you are part of a critically important movement to save our oceans.

In any internship, you’ll hone your skills and learn something new about what it’s like to work in the real world.

As an intern at UBB, you’ll do even more. You’ll learn about getting a small business off the ground, you’ll spearhead projects of your own conception, and you’ll learn more than you could ever fathom about the state of our oceans.

Our positions vary across a wide spectrum, from graphic design to small business development, from marketing to cleanup planning.  We look for current college students or recent graduates with a background in

their chosen position, but an entrepreneurial spirit and great ideas are far more valuable.

Internships are currently unpaid, but some interns do go on to become paid employees when positions are available. And by the end of the semester, you’ll leave UBB with professional experience, a deep portfolio,
and, for great interns, stellar references at UBB.

Your UBB experience begins with your application.  We want to know what makes you passionate about the opportunity to work at UBB. Here’s what we ask of you.

1.    Click on the link for the position (or positions!) that interest you above. These links will bring you to a new page, and you should submit all of your application materials through this portal. Read up on the listing to familiarize yourself with the position.

2.    Don’t send us your resume. Yes, this may be the first job since your summer ice cream gig that didn’t require a resume. But we’re serious. Resist the urge to sneak it in.

3.   Answer a few questions for us. Your resume does have some critical information, and to help you resist the urge to narrate your resume in your cover letter, we’ll give you an opportunity to share these details with us.

4.   Write a cover letter that does the following:

a.   Tells us what excites you about UBB. What about our company or mission excites you? Why do you want to work here out of all the places that you could possibly work? Cover letters that do not include UBB-specific details will be disqualified.

b.  Tells us why you think you’d be a perfect fit. Do you have extensive sales experience and a passion for sustainable seafood?  Have you organized events for your club or group? Tell us about your skills and how they are relevant to the opportunity to which you are applying.

c.  Tells us which program you're applying for. Spring, Summer, or Fall?

5.   Send us samples of your work. If you’re applying for graphic design or film and photography, send us your portfolio and a link to your web site if you have one.  If you are applying to any other position, send us a writing sample and a link to your blog if you have one. (And if you don’t have a personal web site, don’t worry!)

6.  Follow up with Alli by emailing her at alli@unitedbyblue.com or calling her at 215-642-0694. This part is optional, but it help us put faces (or at least voices) to the applications we receive.

 7.   Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, which means there is no deadline but when positions are filled, they’re filled. Submit your application early so that you can be the one to snag the best internship in Philadelphia.

If you still aren’t completely convinced that a semester with UBB will be one of the best you ever have, read what some former interns have to say!

"United By Blue is a friendly work environment where everyone can count on lending a hand and voicing opinion.  I'm confident going into the job market after working with UBB because I learned how to collaborate with others, improve problem solving skills on marketing issues, and gained a better understanding of the social and sustainable space in retail. I'm excited to show off my internship to other employers, but I'm really excited about the skills that I picked up and can use in my everyday life. It was a great experience and the contacts I've made are more than just business." -Zachary Coss

"The opportunity to intern at United by Blue is one not to be missed!  As a Product Development intern,  I was able to work alongside fellow interns and coworkers to design and edit for upcoming seasons.  This allowed me to utilize my current design skills while also learning how to successfully run a business and interact professionally with clients.  Not only did I acquire many skills, but also had a fantastic time while doing so! The office environment is very welcoming and everyone is willing to help if you have a question or concern.  I am confidant that the hands-on experience gained through my internship will continue to help me grow in my future endeavors.  And my personal recommendation is to attend a cleanup!  It was definitely one of the most rewarding aspects of my internship." -Tabitha Giuliano

"I was lucky to have been able to stay with UBB for two semesters, each in a different position.  I attained knowledge of business and the environment that I would have never learned elsewhere, and developed skills that will stick with me in my personal business ventures.  When I start my own business, I will credit UBB for teaching me that sustainable business is smart business.  The relationships I built here will stick with me for a long time coming.  Thank you for a pleasant and enjoyable learning experience!" -Alexa Ahrem

"Working at UBB was an amazing experience. Because the company has a unique mission and is still in its startup phase, there’s a lot of room for new ideas. UBB is so young that there’s bound to be hundreds of opportunities that it hasn’t yet explored. The environmental nature of the company also allows for collaboration and promotion that otherwise wouldn’t be possible. Possibly the greatest aspect is that you will not only be allowed, but expected, to work on the ideas and projects that you generate. It’s a marketing major’s dream: not only are you spreading awareness and selling products for a very cool company, you’re also spreading knowledge and power towards a greater movement. It’s amazing to be part of something bigger than yourself, and working at UBB allows you to be just that." -Kenneth Taylor

"Looking back at the summer I spent at UBB, I can confidently say I learned a lot. Because the company is still in its beginning stages, I was able to go outside my own responsibilities and participate in projects my fellows interns and coworkers were involved in, whether that meant helping to select colors for next season's line or discussing our Facebook marketing strategies. UBB was an enjoyable and stress-free introduction into the professional world. I know the skills I gained at UBB will help me succeed in future endeavors." - Tracy Brinkerhoff

“I had the amazing opportunity to intern with United By Blue just after they launched in May. I had always cared a great deal about the environment, but to actually be able to work with a company that had such a unique mission and a big heart was truly an amazing experience. Aside from the awesome UBB crew, I had the privilege of meeting a lot of incredible people along the way. I learned so much in the process and still wish to help in whatever way I can! Thank you for everything!”
