UBB Removed 879 Pounds of Trash from the Schuylkill River

Location: Bartram's Garden Philadelphia PA

Date: April 03, 2012

A record-breaking 65 volunteers spent a beautiful spring evening cleaning up the banks of the Schuylkill River at Bartram’s Garden.

We nearly had enough parts to build a car with all of our weird trash submissions, which included a car engine, car hood, part of a car door, tires, a plastic duck, a bottle capper, and the back of a TV. Surprisingly, we only picked up one bag of plastic bottles, where we are usually inundated by shoreline plastic.

United By Blue would like to thank our wonderful volunteers for their hard work including buildOn, Alpha Chi Rho brothers from Drexel University, and Penn Environmental Group, Alpha Phi Omega, Seas Green, and from University of Pennsylvania. See you at our next Tuesday on the River on May 1st!
