UBB Removed 938 Tires from Deep Creek
Location: Weishample Hollow Hegins PA
Date: November 19, 201110:00 AM - 3:00 PM

In the rural farm town of Hegins, about an hour northeast of our state capital, you would expect to find a thicket of trees, a calming meadow or family of squirrels alongside Deep Creek, not an estimated 125 tons of trash. Since this site was so large, we decided to tackle the trash in stages, starting with the obscene amount of tires at the site.
Incredible community volunteers and Tri-Valley High School faculty and students pulled 938 tires from this creek’s floodplain. Mahantango Enterprises has generously donated a hauling truck for the cleanup to dispose of the tires. Even though we didn’t play our weirdest trash game, we spotted some odd items at this site- an unmarked tombstone, a license plate from 1972, a few toilets and loads of vehicle parts.
United By Blue would like to thank all of our wonderful volunteers, Tri-Valley High School and Elementary School faculty and students, Mahantango Enterprises, Coffee Brew Café in Fredericksburg, Keep PA Beautiful, The Republican Herald and The Citizen Standard.
