UBB and Kingsborough Community College Cleanup Removed 2,359 Pounds of Trash From Jamaica Bay
Location: Brooklyn NY
Date: October 22, 20119:30 AM - 3:00 PM

United By Blue returned to Brooklyn as part of Kingsborough Community College's Step Up Day on Saturday, October 22nd. Students and faculty stepped up to the challenge of cleaning up Plumb Beach and removed 2,359 pounds of trash! Plumb Beach was in KCC's backyard, the site was just across the bay from KCC's campus.
Plumb Beach doesn't attract many sunbathers, but it is a popular spot for fisherman, dog owners and workout enthusiasts. The beach was littered with plastic bottles, bottle caps, plastic bags, tires, food containers and all sorts of disgusting debris. Our weird trash collection included a Bachelor of Arts Degree from 1998 (not from KCC), an electric razor, car jack and a naked gnome.
Kingsborough Community College was named one of the top community colleges in the country. KCC's 70-acre campus includes its very own beach! Step-Up Day is an annual event that sends three groups of volunteers throughout New York City to complete service projects. The event was sponsored by KCC's Office of Student Life and KCC's Center for Civic Engagement. United By Blue would like to thank Kingsborough Community College for a job well done!
